FROM CANNES TO NEW YORK:
MARYSE SELIT’S JOURNEY FROM INTERNATIONAL CINEMA TO THE STREETS OF A CITY UNDER SIEGE

Fresh from the glamour of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, New York-based entertainment attorney, international editorial model, singer, and emerging actor Maryse Selit is continuing her ascent in the film industry with a role in the upcoming New York crime drama Mark of a Mayor.

Selit recently traveled to the French Riviera to attend the Cannes presentation and premiere events surrounding acclaimed filmmaker Rahhat Shah Kazmi’s highly anticipated film Bombay Stories, starring Bollywood sensation Mouni Roy. The film, inspired by the writings of legendary author Saadat Hasan Manto, explores themes of loneliness, survival, social inequality, and the lives of marginalized individuals living beneath the glittering surface of Bombay. The project attracted significant international attention during Cannes and the premier played to a packed audience that was enthralled by Kazmi’s masterpiece.

While attending Cannes, Selit was not merely a spectator. She was simultaneously filming a role in Kazmi’s Amazon Prime series Blind Frame, starring Indian actor Anuj Sachdeva. Shot on location across Cannes, Barcelona, and Paris, the series follows the story of a blind filmmaker navigating the complexities of life, creativity, and human relationships.

Selit portrays an American journalist who travels from Hollywood to Cannes just to interview the blind filmmaker, bringing an international perspective to the story’s exploration of resilience, perception, and human connection.

For Selit, the experience represented a natural extension of both her professional and personal commitment to storytelling that addresses meaningful social issues. As an entertainment lawyer with a longstanding passion for advocacy and social justice, she has often gravitated toward projects that give voice to underrepresented communities and challenge audiences to view familiar issues through a different lens.

Now back in New York City, Selit’s focus has shifted from the red carpets of Cannes to the gritty streets of a city battling crime, corruption, and homelessness.
She has joined the cast of Mark of a Mayor, an upcoming New York-based crime drama directed by executive producer and filmmaker Jason Gopee. The film stars veteran actor Joe Stolzer, known for appearances in The Irishman, The Blacklist, and Law & Order: SVU.

Set against the backdrop of a city at a crossroads, Mark of a Mayor follows Dan Craig Curtis, a newly elected Mayor of New York City who takes office determined to confront escalating street violence, government dysfunction, and a broken shelter system. Faced with mounting public frustration and a city in crisis, the Mayor launches an aggressive campaign to restore public safety, reform social services, and reclaim neighborhoods from criminal influence.
Selit portrays Katherine, a wealthy Manhattan socialite and philanthropist whose commitment to helping homeless veterans becomes a pivotal force in the Mayor’s efforts to transform the city. Her character pledges an extraordinary contribution toward programs designed to address veteran homelessness, creating one of the story’s most compelling intersections between private philanthropy and public leadership.

The role allows Selit to draw upon themes that closely mirror many of the causes she has championed throughout her career, as well as her personal experience of meeting homeless veterans in Central Park and helping them obtain housing. Selit was also on the board of Common Ground Community, a Robin Hood Foundation charity dedicated to addressing homelessness. Her work as an attorney and advocate has long centered on helping vulnerable populations gain access to support and resources, including housing through her work in the Housing Court Volunteer For the Day Program—making Katherine a character whose motivations resonate on both a professional and personal level.

For Selit, the transition from Cannes to New York symbolizes more than a change in geography. It reflects an increasingly international acting career that bridges independent cinema, socially conscious storytelling, and mainstream dramatic productions. From filming in European locations to portraying a philanthropist helping reshape New York City’s future, she continues to build a body of work defined not only by glamour and visibility, but by stories that explore resilience, human dignity, and the power of social change.
As Blind Frame and Mark of a Mayor move toward release, Selit’s growing presence in film demonstrates how talent, advocacy, and a commitment to meaningful storytelling can intersect across continents—taking her from the world’s most prestigious film festival to the heart of New York City’s cinematic landscape.
